I am an enamellist and goldsmith. My work is abstract expressionism using glass and metal instead of paint and canvas.
I graduated from the George Brown Jewellery Program in 2008, but have many years previous experience in making jewellery and teaching.
The process of enamelling involves firing very finely ground glass (vitreous enamel) onto a copper or silver base at approximately 1500 degrees. That's hot!
Enamelling can be used to create jewellery, decorative bowls, plates, or works of art. With the multitude of techniques and enamel colours available, the possibilities are endless!

The first piece of jewellery I made was in Grade eight, in shop class. This was quite groundbreaking, as it was the first time girls in our school were allowed to take shop! I made lots of other great things but it was the jewellery that stuck.
Then, approximately 10 years ago I took a silversmithing class at the Kingston Lapidary and Mineral Club. It was fantastic! I made a ring my very first night and started on my path of driving instructors insane with questions on how to do things that they weren't teaching in class!
I also learned lapidary work (stone cuttting and polishing) and met lots of great people. I started teaching there after having gone back to Toronto to learn jewellery model making, cuttlebone casting, PMC and glass fusing. Many students loved my class so much they took it twice! I am happy to say that when I left some of my students became the teachers!
At this point I wanted to take things a bit more seriously so I enrolled in the George Brown Jewellery Program in Toronto. I met lots more great people and graduated in 2008.
And finally, just a list of some of the classes I have taken - feel free to ask questions on any of them.
Lapidary, goldsmithing, PMC, cuttlebone casting, model making, casting, reticulation, fusing, surface techniques, patinas, rolling mill, acrylics/plastic, epoxy, rivetting, enamelling, glass fusing, lampwork, stained glass, beading, polymer clay, pottery, screen printing, lino cut printmaking, etching/intaglio, lithograthy, mono prints, soapmaking, candle making, bath bombs, painting, photoshop... there are more but I think that's enough for now.
